No two fires are alike, and there are many factors to be considered when deciding whether or not to ventilate and what kind of ventilation to use. A few of these considerations are as follows: building type and structure, wind direction, availability of natural openings, and whether or not there is sufficient manpower available to protect surrounding areas in the event that the fire increases in intensity when the building is opened. When used properly, ventilation can be a major aid in combating a fire.
